Slushy Art Day

What a great day to play- it actually snowed last night! Everything has that soft, quiet blanketed feeling that makes me want to nest. I just finished up my glue techiniques for Trish B's "Background Noise" challenge. The results were not at all what I expected, but a very cool surprise. I'll be moving on to my mint tin Valentine Shrine for another swap next. What I should be doing is laying tile in the bathroom, but la de da!

Background papers and book cover

Here are the background pages using the shiny stone technique- I'll be using them in an upcoming art postcard swap. I have also included the faux chipboard/ gothic arch book cover before I start embelishing it. I had way to much fun yesterday!!!!

Big Fun Day!

I just tried a twist with the shiny stones technique and got incredible results: I used glossy 4x6 inkjet photo paper, inked as directed, then spritzed lightly w/ windex. I tapped on pearlex using a mini buki makeup brush, then I sprayed with hairspray and did a little manipulation... then I dry stamped the surface with some cool stamps, gave another spray of hairspray and heat set with the heat gun. As soon as they dry completely I'll post.
If that isn't bad enough I decided to try the faux chipboard technique on a book cover using the gothic arch shape (I have a problem I think). Of course I couldn't find my gesso, but at least I found my adhesive backed foam sheets. Anyway, I made gesso from scratch using white glue, taylors chalk and white acrylic paint. It actually worked!
I have destroyed the kitchen, but it sure was fun! Pictures to follow...

Organize Me Please!

I have officially lost my brain to my papers and inks- help! So many excellent swaps, and I did make a resolution to make art everyday in 2008. I must now spend a day unearthing my studio from the rubble of the holidays and several months of neglect. I think I will designate a shelf or area to each season, technique , or genre. It looks good on paper anyway!

Horse Protection Society of NC

I am still frozen from feeding last night! Mary and I started early and had a helper, or I would probably have turned into a Popsicle. Stormy came back- he looks great thank goodness, and he seemed happy to be back with all his friends and care givers. The poor new gelding still can't lift his head, but his eyes are clear and he seems to be improving. We lobbied Joanie to put Starlight on MMS for a few weeks before making the final decision to let him go. I think Padre and Wrangler are going to go on it as well.

This is a collage of pictures that I took 12/22 for a notebook cover (back cover) that I gave to Deborah for her birthday (she is a Christmas baby!). Deborah sponsors Midnight (on the front cover). I wish I had scanned it- it turned out great- I made it using handmade papers from an artist in Maine. Someday I'll learn to save a copy of everything for posterity... anyway, I digress. We are getting another horse this week, but I don't know his circumstances or condition. I am picking up Saturday pm feeding for a few months arrrrggggghhhhh! Trying to talk my brother into helping me out.... here is the link to the Horse ranch if you would like to read about it or make a donation: http://horseprotection.org/
